Gauntlet

Why?

You might ask yourself why this project is on here, especially between all other projects I have on my portfolio.

This was the first project I had to do at NHTV, all solo. The objective was to create a clone of the old arcade game, Gauntlet. However, I went a step further and mixed it with elements of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and made the game a lot smoother than it was supposed to be.

All I had was a simple rendering framework that rendered 2D textures to the screen, but I wanted to prove that I could still create very interesting visuals with that.

The main reason this is on here, is because all art, animations and programming were done by myself. Of course, this is pixel-art, but I really enjoy many processes of game development and I feel that is one of my stronger points as a graphics programmer. Especially my interest in the art-side of things has been very helpful throughout my career.

Features

The game has some cool features that would not have been made if I simply made a Gauntlet clone, namely:

You can see most of the game in action in my demo reel! Be sure to check it out.
